STAINLESS STEEL / ZIRCONIUM FLAP DISC

STAINLESS STEEL / ZIRCONIUM FLAP DISC

Makspro Stainless Steel /zirconium flap disc is an abrasive tool used primarily for grinding, smooth ing, and finishing metal surfaces. It consists of a series of overlapping abrasive flaps, typically made from zirconium oxide, that are arranged radially around the hub of the disc. Zirconium is favoured for its durability and efficiency, especially on harder metals such as stainless steel and other alloys

APPLICATIONS:

  • Weld Blending: Flap discs are excellent for smoothing out weld seams and blending them into the surrounding material.
  • Surface Preparation: They are used to prepare metal surfaces for painting, coating, or welding by removing rust, paint, and scale.
  • Deburring: The discs can remove burrs or sharp edges left after cutting or machining.
  • Grinding: Zirconium oxide flap discs can grind down metal surfaces, providing asmoother finish than traditional grinding wheels.

KEY FEATURES

  1. Abrasive Material: The flap disc uses Zirconium oxide as its abrasive material. Zirconium oxide is a tough, durable, and versatile abrasive that’s effective for a variety of materials, including ferrous metals (like steel), non-ferrous metals, and wood.
  2. Flap Design: The flaps are arranged in an overlapping pattern, which allows for a smooth, even finish. As the flaps wear down, new abrasive material is exposed, ensuring consistent cutting action throughout the life of the disc.
  3. Grit Sizes:Zirconium oxide flap discs are available in a range of grit sizes, from coarse to fine. Coarse grits (e.g., 40 or 60) are used for aggressive material removal, while finergrits (e.g., 80 or 120) are used for finishing and polishing.
  4. Disc Shape: Flap discs typically come in two shapes: Flat (Type 27): Best for working on flat surfaces and for blending welds.
Conical (Type 29): Has an angled shape, making it ideal for aggressive stock removal and working on contours or edges.
  5. Backing Plate: The backing plate holds the flaps in place and provides stability during use. It can be made of fiberglass, plastic, or metal. Fiberglass is the most common backing material because it’s strong and lightweight.
  6. Mounting: Flap discs are designed to be mounted on angle grinders, which spin the disc at high speeds for effective material removal.
